Course Summary

This qualification is particularly aimed at Personal Trainers or Advanced Instructors who are seeking to enhance their qualifications. As the quality of the fitness industry improves, more people and medical professionals are looking to fitness professionals for advice on how exercise and activity can be implemented into daily life to improve health.

You will learn;

  • The signs, symptoms and basic pathology of specific stable conditions
  • The implications and effects of specific medications relating to those conditions
  • Exercise limitations and requirements in special populations
  • How to plan, deliver, manage and evaluate a safe, effective and progressive adapted physical activity program, that is personalised to the individual client’s needs and lifestyle
  • How to develop and implement behavioral change strategies
  • How to open up communication with medical practitioners across a variety of fields

Once you enroll onto the course, you will receive your pre-course reading pack. This pack will contain a variety of learning resources that you will need to read through and complete before the first day of the course. You will also be given the name of your tutor so that you can contact them if you have any questions before the course starts.

Prerequisites

You must be in possession of a current Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification to complete this course. It is advised that you also hold a Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructor qualification although this is not a requirement.

Course & Schedule

You will attend 5 days of training, delivered over three consecutive weekends, Saturday and Sunday. After the first 4 days of training you will be required to attend your assessment which will happen on the third weekend, generally the Saturday. On this assessment day you will take the assessments that your tutor has prepared you for during the course. All of the assessment requirements will be explained on the first day by your tutor. On the first day of the course you will also receive more learning materials that will support you both during the course and after you have finished.

In between the weekend training days, you will be able to contact your tutor to again answer any questions you may have.

Progression & Employment

After successfully completing this qualification you will be able to do a variety of things. These could include;

  • Working within your local NHS – Exercise Referral Scheme
  • Setting up your own Exercise Referral Scheme
  • Establishing partnerships with local medical practitioners
  • Developing a one to one style training system for clients with controlled conditions or who have been referred to you by their doctor

There are also more medically based qualification that you may wish to obtain.
