Course Summary

Candidates must prove that they have the skills and underpinning knowledge to design programmes of exercise away from the traditional gym equipment for use in the home, at work or outside using a variety of small portable equipment and walking. This qualification forms part of the Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training qualification.

You will learn:

  • Health and safety issues of training in different environments
  • How to use limited space, small portable equipment and bodyweight to plan safe and effective programmes of exercise
  • The benefits of walking and the three levels of fitness walking
  • Considerations when training outside

Prerequisites

You must hold a current qualification (within 3 years) in either Level 2 Fitness Instructor - Gym, or Level 2 Fitness Instructor - Exercise to Music. Candidates may also be considered if their qualification is not current but they can prove ongoing industry experience.

Course & Schedule

Online

You will be required to attend 2 training days to complete this qualification. The training days will re-cap on the theory you have learnt while studying on-line and provide you with an opportunity to put your practical skills into action. Your assessment will also be completed on these training days.

Intensive

You will be required to attend 2 training days before your assessment day. These training days will re-cap on the pre-course reading material you have covered and will focus heavily on the practical elements of the course. Each day will combine theory and practical elements and throughout the 2 days you will receive valuable feedback to prepare you for your assessment. We recommend that you complete this qualification at the same time as the Level 3 Advanced Fitness Instructing - Gym qualification. We run the training days for both qualifications next to each other.

Assessment

You will need to design a programme of exercise for a client training away from the usual gym environment, using walking as the main component and at least 3 pieces of small portable equipment. You will then be assessed on your practical skills taking a client through your programme. This will occur in the afternoon of your second training day. Your tutor will help you prepare the programme for your assessment.
